"What You May Not Have Learned During Your Stay Here"
John M. Castro
Harmony Printing & Development Co.

When your in school your teachers spend a lot of time teaching you about these softwares and printing processes and the list goes on and on. Something we don't always get to learn....What it takes to survive in the workplace.

We all expect that going into the real world is going to be a life changing experience...but we may not understand are the ways in which we should go about "securing" our job in where we work.

First of all, you may not be the boss but you should still act like one. Treat the people you work with with respect so you can get their respect in turn, make sure you always clearly communicate what is you want/need someone to do and if something goes wrong anyways put it on yourself first. Don't point fingers. Think about what you could have done better and go from there.

Second, just because you are out of school and don't have a teacher to listen to anymore doesn't mean you shouldn't be listening. Communication is key in the workplace...and for others to communicate with you you need to be a good listener.

Also, remember that you should always be trying to "outdo" what you did last. Your boss loved your last project you went way beyond his expectations. Don't think you can slack on the next one....try to blow his mind even more with what you do next. Always be working towards continuous improvement.

And lastly, don't EVER be afraid to try something new. This is your life...your future...so do it all!

These were the steps that were taken to create this page:
  1. Create a new page
  2. wikipedia content.doc (file you created)
  3. Paste Special (text with structure plus basic formatting)
  4. Link to an external url. Example uses Twitter
  5. Email link (use the insert panel under Windows)
  6. CSS: Change the following: Headings; links; rollovers; active; underline style
  7. CSS All: Change the appearance of links by changing the hover color and background color; Use Live View to preview
  8. New CSS Rule; Go to CSS panel > use new CSS rule button at the bottom | Make your own class (ie highlight) | set parameters | apply
Select the text you want to change; to to Class in the properties panel; select highlight and apply. Practice making several new classes.
  9. Rule: Do not have body copy longer than a $1 bill.
  10. Insert an AP Div tag (Absolute Position); Name it content; change width to 700 px; Put text into this div. Save and Preview
  11. On your own, use the free Hot Pepper file to create a quick header in Photoshop, 700 px wide, height can vary; 72 resolution; RGB;

Use the topic of your wikipedia article to add a title in PS to this header.

Save for Web & Devices. File format will be a jpg since we are dealing with a photo.

Insert this image into the ap div tag, above your text.

  12. Use CSS to keep equal width on either side of your content

Site-Map: Personal Home Page

For this assignment we had to come up with a site map that outlined the way our personal home pages would connect to pages displaying all of the assignments we have done in class.
